Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 lb (250 g) lean ground beef
  • 2 cups (500 mL) marinara
  • or pasta sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups (375 mL) beef broth
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) red wine
  • (or additional beef broth)
  • 1 1/2 tsp (7 mL) dried oregano
  • leaves
  • 3 cups (750 mL) dry penne
  • pasta
  • Salt and freshly ground
  • black pepper
  • Grated Parmesan cheese
  • (optional)

Preparation

Combine oil, onion, garlic and beef in the bowl. Leave lid open.

Select BROWN and set time for 12 minutes. Cook, stirring occasionally, to break up beef. Once done, press CANCEL.

Stir pasta sauce, broth, red wine, oregano and pasta into bowl.

Season with salt and pepper to taste. Close lid. Select SLOW COOK and set time for 30 minutes. Stir halfway through cooking.

Once done, if pasta isn’t cooked to taste, leave on the “Keep Warm” setting for a few additional minutes or until tender. Serve with Parmesan cheese (if using).
